Untitled (1989) watercolor by Johannes Bjorner
I entered this watercolor Painting in the 1989 Reading Art Association (RAA) competion.
It won the President's Award.
As far as I remember, the landscape was from a Vermont Fall scene, which fascinated me because of it's quiet beauty, with the fall colors and the smoky blue mountains providing the perfect background for the little village.

Boys fishing in Paquetá Island (Photo J. Bjorner)

In 1988 we visited the  Brazilian island of Paquetá in the Guanabara bay off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Only bicycles and horse drawn carriages are allowed in this paradise like island.
In the late afternoon we watched  some boys standing on some rocks near the waters edge.
There was such a filling of tranquility and harmony.
The photo I took and the memory of the place inspired 3 paintings.
In the third painting I made up the background and placed two boys fishing using the original subject matter, because boys are boys, wether in Paquetá or in Maine.

Caribean drummers

Talk of the town

The Talk of the town, Caribean ladies were, The Caribean market and Caribean drummes were
inspired from several trips to the Caribean islands, the background was made up and several photos were used for the individual figures of people.

In 1997 I retired from Engineering and traveled to Europe where we had bought a cottage in Denmark.
First I went to Germany camping around the country. On of the  camp grounds I met a nice couple from Queensland, Australia. They were travelling in Europe for 6 month.
I showed them some of my watercolor paintings. The bought "The Caribean Market", which I letter shipped to their home in Queensland.
