About this Site

Welcome to my site!
The purpose of this site is to invite you to view my paintings, which span a period of more than 40 years.
My paintings are inspired by my love of multiple cultures, but also a deep belief, that in the arts we can find the alternative and salvation to the instinctual tendency for violence.
Through Art we discover the humanity of people living in a much different society than our own. While ethnic, religious and political differences sometimes split us apart, Art unite us us in the parallel world of spirituality.
My love of visual art is equaled only by my love of music. I often start a painting while listening to classical music.
I believe that the arts melt together in the spiritual light of the love that can illuminate our souls. That light that is not part of our flesh and bones, but the light that remains, when our bodies no longer exist and our souls have moved to a world beyond the earthly one.
Like many other artists, I'm an artist in search of the ligth, we never reach that light, which is on the other side of the curtain separating this life from the spiritual life, however sometimes we might lift that curtain just a little bit, letting some of the light from beyond iluminate this world, because art is the link between this life and the afterlife.

I studied art at the Boston Museum School and the Massachusetts College of Art, and have had the luck and privilege to participate in workshops conducted by some of Americas leading artists.
I never liked giving paintings a title because, once the artist finished his work, it belongs to the viewer, who will interpret and relate to the particular paintings in his/hers own way.
Thus I've numbered more recent paintings using the opus notation, which was used by music composers.
Biography starts with a short art biography followed by a segment How it began which is a personal account of how I, at the age of 31, I returned to my childhoods passion for drawing and painting.
Following this segment there is a more in depth life biography.
Curriculum Vitae is an overview of my art formation, at the end of this segment there is a detailed list of workshops that I have participated in, followed by a more detailed list of gallery exhibits at corporate art galleries.

  1. Hola, Johannes! Is and I looked up one of her former art teachers, who had become a prominent artist (after a money-making career)in "retirement". He expressed the same thoughts about not titling his works. Coffee & discussion at Badulake on Monday, 1 July?
